Spring Break 2008: The snookies and I decided it would be fun to head up to Hollywood and do some of the tourist-y stuff you never do when you live here. We started our adventure on Wednesday and spent the night in the gorgeous Ayres Hotel in Mission Viejo (thank you, Jeannie!). With a basket of nibbles AND a jacuzzi tub at our fingertips, how could we help but have a fantastic night? HEY! That's just how we roll in the Shire!!
Our first stop was at Pink's. YUM-O!! We had dogs, fries, and sodas (in glass bottles...RETRO!). Them there are serious expensive dogs, but what the hell, we were on our one-day vacation and the snookies are worth it!
From there we headed over to the Hollywood Wax Museum. That was cool! Some of the figures were horrendous, but a number of them were quite good. All of us decided that Samuel L Jackson was our favorite. I was waiting for him to blink!
Next it was the Ripley's Believe It Or Not Museum. I thought that was fun; the snookies, not so much. They liked parts of it, but some of it was too dark and too gory for their delicate sensibilities. The things that had me saying, "Cool!" had them saying, "Ick!" Ah, well, can't hit 'em all out of the park....
The Guiness Book of World Records Museum was a big yawn. Unless you're a harder core nerd than I am, if you're thinking about heading to Hollywood, skip this attraction.
We finished up at the Hollywood History Museum. That was VERY cool. Loads of pictures from old time stars as well as current celebrites and a lovely tribute to Johnny Grant made this a great stop for us.
After checking out the Walk of Fame, we wrapped up our day. We made a point of getting out of that neck of the woods before nightfall. As I told Vinny, "Without a big guy around, I had no comfort with having the snookies in Hollywood after dark." Vinny said, "In that neighborhood? Forget the big guy, you'd need a big gun." As I'd left all my firearms back at the ranch, making an early exit was definitely the order of the day!
As we headed back to the car, I caught sight of the Erotica Museum. THE EROTICA MUSEUM!!! Who knew?!?! That was obviously a field trip for another day...anybody interested?
All in all we saw some cool stuff, ate some good food, and had ourselves a right good time. Can an auntie ask for more? I think not!!
With love and french fries,
Auntie Jodi
